The first edition of the Symposium in Pesticide Chemistry was organized by Attilio del Re in the 1979 with Paolo Fontana, professors of the Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Since that, it has grown intensively reaching an international top level thanks to the cooperation with Allan Walker (UK).
Nowadays the Symposium represents one of the most important scientific events on pesticide worldwide and it is organised every two years in alternation between the Università Cattolica and the University of York (Chaired by prof. Colin Brown).
